Ferguson & Melvin Co. is your solution throughout the Los Angeles and Southern California areas for superior roofing products that are built to last, whether you need commercial, industrial or residential materials.

Since 1979, we have been committed to ensuring the longevity, safety and energy efficiency of your roof. As such, we offer a wide range of roofing solutions to fit your needs and budget.

Shingles & Tile

GAF Grand Canyon Shingle

By far the most popular roofing type, particularly for residential roofing, composition shingles are available in various styles, colors and types. Comprising 80 percent of roofs in Southern California, asphalt shingles are highly sought after due to their ease of installation, affordability, resiliency and recyclable nature. This type of roof generally lasts between 20 and 25 years. Arguably the second most abundant type of residential roofing is tile.  Tile is comes in both clay and concrete, both standard and lightweight, and in many profiles and colors.  Done right, a quality tile roof can last a lifetime.

As your premier roofing contractor in the Los Angeles area, Ferguson & Melvin Co. is proud to use only the best manufacturers for our composition shingles and tile products, including:

Eagle Concrete Tile
  • GAF
  • CertainTeed
  • Malarkey
  • Owens Corning
  • Boral
  • Eagle

Shake & Slate

DaVinci Slate

One of the more aesthetically pleasing roofing materials is slate, perhaps because of its unique qualities. No two pieces of genuine quarry slate are the same – even ones that originate from the same quarry mine on the same day. This elegant, classy material features old-world craftsmanship that adds value and curb appeal to your home.  And, with advances in new technology and milling techniques, you can get the genuine slate look at a lower cost and with less weight than was previously available.

And, if it’s the shake look that you’re after, then we’ve got that covered, too.  In most areas of Los Angeles, authentic wood shake roofs were banned back in the 90’s, due to high fire risk.  However, there are several manufacturers on the market that we work with that offer synthetic shake products that look almost like the real thing, while eliminating the fire risk of wood shake.

Cedarlite Shake

Here at Ferguson & Melvin Co., we have the skill and patience to ensure a thorough installation that will last for year and years to come. Again, we only work with top-notch manufacturers with a proven track record of delivering on excellence:

  • American Slate
  • GAF TruSlate
  • Symphony by CertainTeed
  • DaVinci Slate
  • Boral Cedarlite Shake
  • Tamko Lamarite Shake

Single Ply – TPO and PVC

Single Ply TPO

Usually reserved for installation on low-slope commercial roof applications, single ply roofing consists of one layer of roof membrane. We offer several single-ply membrane choices, both TPO and PVC, in a variety of thicknesses, formulations, and colors.

Not only are these materials lightweight and cost effective, they’re energy efficient as well because they meet California’s Title 24 cool roof standards. They’re also easy to install and maintain.

We trust the following single ply roofing brands for every job we take on:

  • Carlisle SynTec
  • GAF
  • Versico Roofing Systems
  • Firestone

Built-Up Roofing – BUR

GAF BUR EnergyCap

Also known as hot-mop or hot-asphalt roofing, built-up roofing (BUR) is the most common type of commercial flat roof system, with a history dating back 150 years. This type of roofing is just what it sounds like: layer upon layer of various base and ply sheets, to protect from foot traffic, ultra violet rays from the sun, and air pollutants, as well as a cap sheet for aesthetics and durability – all bound together with hot asphalt.

Modified Bitumen – APP

GAF APP EnergyCap

After BUR, modified bitumen is the next most common type of commercial flat roof in the Los Angeles area, well liked for its performance and durability designed to prevent damage from heavy traffic, punctures, and tears. It offers long lasting quality and affordability, especially for smaller projects where hot asphalt is just no feasible.

Cool Roof Coatings

APOC Cool Roof Coating

Finally, cool roof coatings have become increasingly popular on multi-family residential projects and commercial flat roofs over the last 10 years. It offers a simple solution to extend the life of your existing BUR or APP roof system and it will keep your roof much cooler, bringing it into compliance with Title 24 energy standards “cool roof” and saving you thousands of dollars per year in energy costs.

Here at Ferguson & Melvin Co., you get peace of mind knowing our contractors approach each job with attention to detail and proven skill to ensure your roof of choice lasts the test of time.
